  6. WINTER DRINKS #2

Look I promised it would be up the next day and it is!!!! (big achievement for me as I never keep promises…)

This drink is delicious and really good to warm you up after a long winter walk (*long facebook session in your freezing uni halls…)

I know not everyone has chai teabags chilling around their kitchen BUT I do recommend investing in them - you can do a lot more than just make tea with them! Also I’m not that keen on normal tea as I don’t like milk that much so chai is a great alternative :)

The ginger is optional as I know some people don’t like it, but I do recommend putting it in! It adds a spicyness which is lovely for the winter. Also it’s super cheap if you buy it by weight at the supermarket; I got a piece about the size of my palm for 20p at ASDA!

    Lemon Chai Tea

    1 mug of hot water
    1 Chai teabag
1/4 of a large lemon (or 1/2 a small one)
    1 tablespoon honey
small amount of sliced ginger (if you have any)

    • boil the kettle and whilst it’s boiling slice the lemon in half and squeeze some of the juice out into your mug
    • add the slices of lemon, the ginger (if using) and teabag to the mug and pour the water over the top
    • let it infuse for 5 minutes (or longer if you like a stronger flavour
    • take the teabag out and stir in the honey
    • you can take the lemony gingery bits out as well if you like, but I usually keep them in to get their full flavour
    • drink and enjoy :)

  7. WINTER DRINKS #1

I know I said I would do some winter drinks posts but I’ve been super busy so didn’t get around to it… Sorry!

BUT here is my first drink for the cold season :) it’s possibly my favourite hot drink ever and is a mixture of hot, sweet, spicy, sticky caramelly deliciousness (which can never be a bad thing!)

This is a perfect alternative for tea or coffee and while the ingredients are possibly not what you would always have around the house, they’re definitely worth buying! (also the cinnamon, sugar and vanilla will last you ages and don’t cost that much)

    Butterscotch Latte

    1 mug of milk
    1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar (you can also use caster or granulated!)
    1 teaspoon vanilla essence/extract
    1 teaspoon cinnamon

    • melt the butter and sugar in a pan until it bubbles up into a caramel
    • add the milk (note - the sugar will probably crystallise if the milk is cold from the fridge but don’t worry as it will dissolve when it heats up a bit!)
    • add the cinnamon and vanilla and stir, then leave until it starts to gently boil
    • you can pour it in to a mug and drink it now, but I like to tip the pan to the side and whisk the milk over the heat to make it frothy and to make sure all the ingredients are mixed!
    • sprinkle some cinnamon on the top then drink and enjoy :)

Be careful as it will be SUPER HOT when you pour it from the pan so try to refrain from drinking straight away! (I am very impatient and have burnt my tongue many times…)

I will (hopefully) post my second Winter Drink for you tomorrow! Watch this space…

  9. Winter Drinks?

I am currently obsessed with the new ‘winter’ drinks all the coffee shops are selling although I don’t have the money to buy anything so have to save up and make it a treat at the weekend… Sooooo I’m trying to recreate some of the recipes at home and I’m planning on doing a post of nice winter drinks to keep the sniffles away once I’ve perfected my homemade chai latte!

Let me know if there’s anything you want me to give a recipe on :)
